Additional Information:
HPV infection is the most common sexually transmitted infection. Different types of HPV are categorized into low-risk and high-risk groups. High-risk types, especially HPV 16 and 18, are recognized as the main causes of cervical cancer and are also associated with other cancers in genital and non-genital regions. Viral proteins E6 and E7 play crucial roles in carcinogenesis. These proteins, after viral DNA integration into the host DNA, cause uncontrolled cell growth, leading to genetic instability and chromosomal abnormalities.

During viral integration, parts of the HPV DNA may be lost, but the E6 and E7 genes are always preserved. Therefore, using a system targeting these genes reduces the chance of false-negative results.
