Brilliant Green (BPLS) Agar is a selective and differential solid medium specifically designed for the isolation and identification of Salmonella spp. from clinical, food, and environmental samples. This product is manufactured by BioLab and exclusively distributed in Iran by Fardad Azma Rad Co.

The formulation contains selective inhibitors and pH indicators to support the growth of Salmonella while differentiating it from non-target organisms.

Key Components and Mechanism:

• Brilliant Green:
  A triphenylmethane dye that strongly inhibits the growth of Gram-positive and many Gram-negative enteric bacteria, except Salmonella.

• Sodium Selenite:
  A toxic compound used as an additional selective agent.

• Lactose:
  Differential carbohydrate:

  • Lactose fermenters (e.g., E. coli) → Yellow/Orange colonies

  • Salmonella (non-lactose fermenter) → Colorless/Pale Pink colonies

• Phenol Red:
  A pH indicator that highlights acid production from lactose fermentation.
