What Is EGFR?

EGFR belongs to the Type I receptor tyrosine kinase family. It includes an extracellular
ligand-binding domain, a short transmembrane region, and an intracellular domain with tyrosine
kinase activity. Although EGFR is present in many normal tissues—especially in the basal layer of
squamous epithelium—overexpression is frequently seen in cancers such as breast, lung, bladder,
gastric, esophageal, and head and neck carcinomas.

How This Antibody Works

In immunohistochemistry (IHC), the primary antibody binds specifically to EGFR in tissue sections.
A secondary HRP-conjugated antibody is then applied. Using the DAB chromogenic reagent,
positive cells develop a clear brown stain located on the cell membrane or in the cytoplasm.
