AFP (Alpha-Fetoprotein) Antibody (Immunohistochemistry)

Exclusive Distributor in Iran: Fardad Azma Rad Co.

Pathologists use the AFP Antibody to detect Alpha-Fetoprotein expression in tumors.
This marker helps identify Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) and Germ Cell Tumors, especially Yolk Sac Tumors.
As a result, AFP plays an essential role in liver cancer diagnosis.

In addition, AFP is the most abundant plasma protein in the human fetus.
The fetal liver, yolk sac, and intestinal tract produce this protein during development.
After birth, AFP levels drop sharply. However, its expression reappears in conditions such as HCC and germ cell tumors.

Features and Benefits

  • Specific marker for hepatocellular and germ cell tumors
  • Clear brown cytoplasmic staining pattern
  • Helps differentiate HCC from metastatic adenocarcinoma
  • Compatible with FFPE tissues and DAB detection systems
  • Stable for 18 months at 2–8 °C

Diagnostic Applications

  • Detection of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC)
  • Identification of Yolk Sac and Germ Cell Tumors
  • Differentiation between HCC and metastatic adenocarcinoma
  • Research on oncofetal markers and embryonal tumor biology

IHC Staining Pattern

During the IHC procedure, the primary AFP antibody binds directly to the AFP antigen.
Next, a secondary HRP-conjugated antibody attaches to the primary antibody.
Finally, the DAB chromogen reacts with this complex and produces a strong brown cytoplasmic stain.
Therefore, the staining confirms AFP expression in tumor tissues.
