🧪 Mammaglobin Antibody (Immunohistochemistry)
The Mammaglobin Antibody is a highly specific breast tissue marker widely used in detecting and evaluating metastatic breast carcinoma. Mammaglobin is a mammary gland-associated glycoprotein, and its presence is a reliable indicator of breast origin in tumor cells found in tissues or lymph nodes.
This antibody is particularly valuable for identifying latent breast cancer cells in sentinel lymph nodes and peripheral blood, providing crucial diagnostic information for pathologists. Its high sensitivity enables the detection of even small clusters of breast-derived tumor cells in metastatic or occult lesions.
🔬 Features and Benefits
-
Breast-specific marker: Ideal for identifying primary and metastatic breast carcinoma
-
High sensitivity and precision: Detects minimal breast-derived tumor cell populations
-
Clear cytoplasmic staining: Brown color visible in the cytoplasm of positive cells
-
Compatible with standard IHC protocols: Suitable for all clinical and research pathology laboratories
-
Excellent stability: Shelf life of 18 months at 2–8 °C
⚙️ Principle of the Assay
During the IHC process, the Mammaglobin antibody binds to the target antigen in the tissue. A secondary antibody conjugated with HRP then binds to the primary antibody, forming the antigen–antibody–HRP complex. The addition of DAB chromogen produces a brown insoluble staining reaction in the cytoplasm, confirming the presence of mammaglobin expression.
💡 Diagnostic Applications
-
Identification and confirmation of breast origin in metastatic tumors
-
Detection of occult breast cancer cells in sentinel lymph nodes (SLN)
-
Evaluation of tumor cells in peripheral blood samples
-
Research on breast cancer biomarkers and metastasis
