The PAX-8 Antibody is an essential IHC marker used to identify tumors that originate from
renal, thyroid, and Müllerian tissues.
PAX-8 belongs to the paired box (PAX) gene family and plays a key role in the development of
thyroid follicular cells, renal tubular cells, and Müllerian epithelium.

In addition, PAX-8 expression remains strong in epithelial cells of these organs.
As a result, it is absent in most unrelated carcinomas, including breast, colorectal, and liver tumors.
Therefore, PAX-8 staining is a reliable tool for distinguishing primary renal, thyroid, and ovarian carcinomas from metastatic lesions.
