🧪 E-Cadherin Antibody (Immunohistochemistry)
The E-Cadherin Antibody is an essential immunohistochemical marker used for evaluating cell adhesion and tumor invasiveness.
E-Cadherin is a 120 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein expressed in epithelial cells and is responsible for cell-to-cell adhesion through its interaction with catenins.
Loss or reduction of E-Cadherin expression correlates with increased tumor invasion, metastasis, and malignancy progression, especially in gastric, breast, prostate, and ovarian carcinomas. Therefore, E-Cadherin IHC staining is a key diagnostic tool for distinguishing well-differentiated epithelial carcinomas from metastatic tumors.
🔬 Features and Benefits
-
Specific marker for epithelial cell adhesion: Detects alterations in intercellular junctions
-
Clear membrane staining: Brown staining visible along the cell membrane
-
Broad diagnostic applications: Particularly useful in breast and gastric carcinoma diagnosis
-
Compatible with standard IHC protocols
-
Excellent stability: Reliable up to 18 months at 2–8 °C
⚙️ Principle of the Assay
During the IHC process, E-Cadherin antibody binds to its antigen located on epithelial cell membranes.
The HRP-conjugated secondary antibody forms the antigen–antibody–HRP complex, which reacts with DAB chromogen, producing a brown insoluble stain on the membrane of positive cells.
💡 Diagnostic Applications
-
Evaluation of cell adhesion loss in epithelial tumors
-
Differentiation between ductal and lobular breast carcinoma
-
Identification of gastric and prostatic carcinoma
-
Research studies on metastasis and epithelial cell biology
