Synaptophysin Antibody (Immunohistochemistry)
The Synaptophysin Antibody is a highly specific marker for the diagnosis of neuroendocrine and neuronal tumors.
Synaptophysin is a 38 kDa glycoprotein localized in the presynaptic vesicle membrane of neurons, playing a critical role in synaptic transmission and neurotransmitter release.
In immunohistochemistry, positive staining for Synaptophysin appears as brown cytoplasmic staining, which helps in the identification of neuroendocrine differentiation in various tumors, including carcinoid, small cell carcinoma, pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma, and pancreatic islet cell tumors.
